The Mission: Socially Responsible

CONNECT
  • What in the message most stood out to you? What do you think God is telling you through this message?
  • Recall a time when you were in trouble or great need. Was there someone who helped you? How were you rescued from the situation?
WORD
  • For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.’…The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’” -Matthew 25:35-36, 40
  • Jesus is not saying that social work gets people to heaven  He is saying it’s an attitude of life, a life poured out in deed of service to people in need – a selfless is an inevitable sign of real faith.  Faith that is express in deed and not sentiment.
APPLICATION
  • Read the story of the Good Samaritan in Luke 10: 25-37. What are the needs that the Samaritan saw and how did he respond to it?
  • What moved the Samaritan to help the poor man? What usually motivates you when you help someone?
  • Do you see Jesus as your neighbor? How does this affect the way you see the people around you?
  • How is God calling you to be generous and compassionate this week? What actions can you take?
PRAYER
  • Thank God for pouring out His riches on us and blessing us with every spiritual blessing through Jesus Christ. Pray for the grace of God to move you with compassion as you reach out to someone in need.
  • Pray for the mission that God has for your this year. Pray for passion, confidence and  boldness from the Holy Spirit as you share the gospel to your friend or family member.
